Red Lantern Analytica extends a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to Taiwan for opening their third office of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre (TECC) in Mumbai, India. It is a step to further bolster India-Taiwan relations and improve bilateral trade, technological, and cultural ties which began in 1995.
Trade between India and Taiwan amounted to $10.1 billion as of the fiscal year ending in March 2024, with both ways of trade amounting to more than $ 8 billion in 2023, thereby making India its 12th largest export market. This opening occurs amidst a joint venture of Taiwan’s Power Chip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation and India’s Tata Electronics to manufacture semiconductors in Gujarat. This is a way of reinforcing Taiwan’s “New Southbound Policy” and India’s “Act East Policy”. India and Taiwan’s collaboration in trade, investment, education, technology, and tourism shows their unfailing ties. The opening of the new office of TECC in Mumbai further boosts investment opportunities and deepens bilateral ties.
The recent lodging of Chinese diplomatic protest with India over the newly established office of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre (TECC) of Taiwan in Mumbai is uncalled for since the deepening of ties between any two countries includes the establishment of such representative offices for each other.
It’s high time for a stronger India-Taiwan Relationship as this also reflects India’s unwavering support for Taiwanese cause. RLA is in solidarity with the people of Taiwan and condemns any provocative Chinese comments involving India-Taiwan relations. Also, we would urge the world to engage more with TECC as they are the diplomatic voice of the free people of Taiwan.
